Eclipse is a fully featured development environment that can be used with a number of different programming languages and compilers. The application is open source and developed by hundreds of people. It is also written fully in Java allowing it to be run under almost any modern operating system. Eclipse includes a robust text editor with context highlighting, debug tools to automated version tracking. It can be configured to allow for one-button compilation and execution of programs. There is a structured view of the current project on the left making it easier to track variables, objects and assets. Eclipse can also be integrated with many other tools allowing for easy collaboration or testing.
